Involvement of children and young people in the DZKJ

How can children and young people play an active role in shaping health research? The latest newsletter from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) addresses this question and highlights the activities of the German Centre for Child and Adolescent Health (DZKJ) in the field of Patient, Parent and Public Involvement (PPPI).

The article shows how the DZKJ is establishing structures across Germany to involve children and young people, their parents and the interested public in health research at an early stage and on a long-term basis. These include, amongst other things, local and a national patient advisory board, opportunities for training and participation, as well as science communication initiatives and exchanges with schools and other partners. The aim is to align research more closely with the needs and experiences of young people and to integrate their perspectives into research processes on a permanent basis.
