Get Involved, Join the Research, Help Shape the Future – The DZKJ at the Long Night of Science in Dresden

How does our immune system work? What factors influence the health of children and young people? And how can young people play an active role in shaping research? The German Centre for Child and Adolescent Health (DZKJ) provided answers to these and many other questions at the Long Night of Science 2026 in Dresden. Numerous visitors took the opportunity to find out more about the joint DZKJ site in Leipzig/Dresden and to talk to researchers.
Getting involved with the DZKJ

At a participation stand, the DZKJ provided information on opportunities to get involved in the future with the Children and Young People’s Council and the Family Council at the Leipzig/Dresden site. Children, young people and their families were able to contribute their ideas and suggestions on children’s and young people’s health research via an interactive survey and find out about ways to get involved.

Hands-on research

At the Immunity stand, visitors were able to experience the immune system in a playful way. In addition, scientists gave short talks providing insights into the key research areas at the Dresden site – ranging from immunology and mental health to community medicine and early determinants of health.

The Long Night of Science provided the DZKJ with an excellent opportunity to engage with children, young people and families, to explain research in an accessible way and to further boost interest in child and adolescent health research.

We would like to thank all our visitors, young and old alike, for their keen interest, the fascinating discussions and the many curious questions.
